The Love Story
From Miami to Baltimore, with a little Harry Potter magic along the way
James Hillyer and Shelly Morse both attended the University of Miami, where they first met during a football trip to Atlanta.
Years later, their paths crossed again in January 2020 when Shelly returned to Miami to work the Super Bowl. After a few dates, James was certain he’d met someone special—and, in true James fashion, wasted no time letting everyone know. Shortly after the world shut down for COVID, and suddenly they were quarantined together, navigating a brand-new relationship in a 500-square-foot apartment.
More than five years and three states later, they now live in Baltimore, Maryland, on what locals (and Google) proudly call “The Greatest Street in America.”
Before getting engaged, James had one requirement: Shelly had to read all seven Harry Potter books. She took her sweet time, and in May 2024, James proposed during their morning walk along the Baltimore waterfront—with their two dogs, Brody and Cormac, happily tagging along.
